Continue south through Midelt for a lunch stop (own expense).

In the afternoon, descend through the dramatic Ziz Valley gorge — a canyon lined with hundreds of thousands of date palms — toward the desert. Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga in the late afternoon. Mount your camel for the trek into the dunes, arriving at your shared desert camp as the sun sets over the Sahara. Traditional Moroccan dinner included, with music around the fire. Overnight in shared Berber tents.

Early wake-up before sunrise. Climb the dunes by foot or camel for the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi. Return to camp for breakfast, then board the minibus and head west toward Todra Gorge — walk into the canyon between its towering 300-meter limestone walls.
