This 5 day Desert Chigaga Adventure Taroudant, is a private tour takes the scenic western approach to the Sahara — through the walled city of Taroudant, Historic and Culture of the saffron capital of Taliouine, and the remote Anti–Atlas crossing via Taznakht and Foum Zguid — before reaching the dramatic dune field of Erg Chigaga. The return route then opens an entirely different side of the south: Zagora, the remarkably hidden kasbah village of N’Koub, Todra Gorge, the Dades Valley, the Valley of Roses, and the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This is one of the most complete southern Morocco circuits we offer — the Souss Valley, the Anti-Atlas, the deep Sahara at Erg Chigaga, the ancient Draa Valley, and the High Atlas canyons, all in five days, entirely as a private journey at your own pace

This tour reaches Erg Chigaga via the western route through Taroudant and Taliouine — a more scenic and varied approach than the standard eastern route. • The 4×4 transfer from Foum Zguid to the desert camp takes approximately 2 hours each way over unpaved desert tracks. • Saffron season (harvesting) runs October to November; the cooperative is open year-round for visits regardless of season. • This is a fully private tour — no other travelers join your vehicle or camp. • N’Koub is rarely included on standard Morocco itineraries; ask your guide for extra time there if you are especially interested in kasbah architecture
Why take this route instead of the direct route to Merzouga?
This western route through Taroudant, Taliouine, and the Anti-Atlas reaches a completely different and far less visited dune field — Erg Chigaga — and passes through Souss Valley and saffron country that most Morocco tours never see. It is a more varied and adventurous five days than the standard Merzouga route.
Is the saffron cooperative visit worth including?
Yes — Taliouine produces some of the finest saffron in the world, grown at high altitude in mineral-rich soil. The cooperative visit shows the labor-intensive harvesting and drying process by hand, and saffron tea tasting is included.
How remote is Erg Chigaga compared to Merzouga?
Significantly more remote. Erg Chigaga is reached only by 4×4 from Foum Zguid or M’Hamid el Ghizlane, with no paved road to the dune edge. This means far fewer visitors and a deeper sense of isolation than the more accessible Erg Chebbi at Merzouga.
Can N’Koub be given more time on this itinerary?
Yes — if you want to spend a full afternoon or overnight in N’Koub rather than a brief stop, we can extend this tour to 6 days. Contact us for the adjusted itinerary. Read More

What is the difference between a shared group tour and a private tour?
Shared group tours are ideal for students, solo travelers, couples, and friends looking for an affordable way to explore Morocco. Enjoy the Merzouga dunes, camel trekking, and a Sahara camp experience while meeting travelers from around the world.
Private tours offer a dedicated driver-guide, flexible schedules, photo stops anywhere, and a more personalized Morocco experience tailored to your interests.
